How to Commission a Watercolour

1. Enquiry Begin by reaching out through the contact form below. Share a little about what you have in mind — subject, size, or simply your instinct about what draws you to a Dee Smart watercolour.

2. Intro Call Dee will arrange a short call — around 15 to 20 minutes — to explore your ideas, intentions and the emotional tone of the piece. This is where it begins to take shape.

3. Concept & Scope Together you'll settle on the composition, subject — sea creatures, landscape or otherwise — size, palette and mood.

4. Deposit & Booking A deposit of 30–50% secures your place in Dee's studio schedule. The balance is due on completion.

5. Painting Dee works in watercolour on Arches or Waterford fine art paper. Allow 2–6 weeks for the work to be completed — layered, refined and considered in studio.

6. Review A progress image can be shared mid-way, though many collectors choose to experience the finished work with entirely fresh eyes.

7. Framing Framing is highly recommended to protect and present the work at its best. UV glazing and archival matting are available, and framing coordination can be arranged on your behalf.

8. Delivery or Collection Collect from Dee's Sydney studio, or have the work couriered to you. Interstate and international shipping available.
